Richard Spector quoted in the Birmingham Mail

Partner Richard Spector has been featured in the Birmingham Mail, one of the city’s leading newspapers, discussing the government’s announcement of an energy company crackdown. Spector Constant & Williams is currently representing clients in claims over energy brokers’ secret commissions.

The article explains that businesses will get free support to resolve issues with their energy contracts, as part of government and Ofgem changes to tackle cowboy practices like hidden fees.

Richard notes: "The move to greater transparency over the commission charged by energy brokers is long overdue. We believe that thousands of businesses may be entitled to up to 80% of their energy costs back because of secret commissions.

At the moment the fees charged by energy brokers can be veiled in secrecy. Some businesses wrongly assume that the commission is paid by their energy supplier. Even if businesses do realise they are paying the broker's fees, it is incredibly difficult for businesses to find out how much they are paying, as fees are agreed between the broker and energy supplier and are not detailed on customers' bills."
