Alun is an expert in both commercial and residential led re-development projects. He has over 20 years’ experience in acting for developers, builders and lending institutions.
Alun has significant expertise in advising upon the correct structuring for projects including forward-funding agreements, development management agreements, subject to planning transactions and joint venture agreements. He understands the complexities associated with large transactions and has a reputation for finding practical solutions to issues that arise during the course of such matters. He has in-depth knowledge of tax efficient legal structuring, particularly VAT and SDLT implications.
Alun works closely with housing associations and has a deep knowledge of viability and more recently the applicability of viability review mechanisms and the different approaches applied by the Mayor’s Guidance, individual London boroughs and other local authorities.
Alun works closely with project managers, principals, MDs and CFOs in achieving his clients’ goals.
Properly understanding a client’s requirements, is more than half the job in properly fulfilling them.
Recent Experience
- Acquisition and disposal of residential development sites from small scale multi-unit sites to large developments including a residential led care home scheme in North London with a gross development value of in excess of £50m.
- Building leases – acting for a well-known residential developer in a complex building lease arrangement with a gross development value in excess of £40m.
- Development agreements for lease including a new affordable scheme on the south coast with a gross development value in excess of £18m.
- Development management agreements – Alun has negotiated a number of development management agreements particularly with regards the redevelopment of existing business premises. Alun recently completed a DMA with a GDV in excess of £30m.
- Acquisition and disposal of residential development sites and commercial agreements for ground floor employment use, these include pre-lets to major supermarket tenants.
Outside Work
Alun enjoys watching and playing sports, and has a keen interest in golf and cricket. Alun also enjoys sailing and going for walks in the Surrey hills with his young family.
