Dispute Resolution
Richard has acted in a number of high-profile cases and was heavily involved in the litigation that arose from the collapse of Lehman Brothers. The administrators of Lehman chose Richard and his team to be involved in resolving what should happen to the money left in Lehman's client pool.
Richard has a broad range of extensive experience in commercial litigation. As well as banking and insolvency litigation, Richard regularly acts in high value professional negligence claims, contractual disputes, IP and competition law claims.
Richard travels extensively to the Far East and recently represented one of the leading banks in China in respect of a high value transaction with a US Bank. Richard successfully won over £8m for his client in a case which was listed in the Lawyer top 20 cases of 2016 in a hard fought professional negligence claim. Richard is currently instructed on £170m plus claim for breach of competition and IP law. Richard has recently been successful in a 6 week trial at the High Court relating to a building in Canary Wharf which Richard's team successfully won claims of breach of confidence and unlawful conspiracy.
Richard regularly acts on high value and complex cases in the insolvency cases and is currently involved in an application to wind up a Luxembourg Fund in the English Courts which has lost approximately £80m.
Richard's litigation team was ranked in this year's Legal 500. Richard was described in the Legal 500 as "someone who brings strong leadership and constant focus to the cases he is running" and as someone who "pulls out all the stops to achieve his client's goals".
SC&W are one of the few firms to have successfully embraced Damages Based Agreements ("DBA's") and Richard is one of the leaders and pioneers in the use of DBAs and flexible funding arrangements.

- Acting for adminstrators of Lehman Brothers on a major piece of litigation in what was the largest insolvency ever in the UK.

- Acting for a number of liquidators, receivers and adminstrators who were appointed by lenders to recover monies under loans.
- Acting on various injunctions to prevent borrowers seeking relief against lenders.
- Acting in relation to the insolvency of a large hotel operation in the Caribbean.
- Acting on a high value professional negligence claim in the Technology and Construction Court which we won. It was in The Lawyer top 20 cases of 2016.
- Acting on a £170m IP and Competition law claim in the High Court.
- Acting on a £10m breach of confidence claim in the High Court.
- Acting on a £20m fraud claim in the High Court where we obtained a freezing injunction.
- Acting for investors who lost £50m on investment into a property fund.
Outside Work
Richard’s interests include politics and food. Richard is also an avid football fan and is enjoying watching his team, AFC Bournemouth, finally enjoying success.
