Lawyers and women's football: Unlikely partners?

When we set up Spector Constant and Williams in 2019, we set out to be a different law firm, a law firm that backs talent and development and gives more than just lip service to supporting the next generation.

Why, though, does that translate into SC&W being a major sponsor at this year's Women's Football Awards, which takes place on Thursday 25th May.

We are sponsoring the Grassroots Initiative award and we line up alongside household names such as Trivago, Quooker, Metro and Nobu Hotels as award sponsors.

It's not commonplace to see law firms so visibly backing sports initiatives alongside such big, household names. However, at SC&W we want to play our part in community and grassroots projects as well as the more usual legal sector initiatives because we believe in nurturing talent from early on, whether that be in sport, the community, or the legal sector.

We will of course feel proud as a law firm on the night of the awards to see our name associated with the grassroots category. Yet, the main aim is to help those with talent coming through reach their potential and to celebrate that success.

We believe that the next generation of lawyers want more from their careers in the law than just the financial benefits. We hope that backing the Women's Football Awards, grassroots sports and rising sports stars tells anyone thinking of which of which law firm they want to join, that SC&W is about more than practicing law; that we invest in the future and understand we all have a big role to play outside of law. At SC&W we already given our  support to Omonia Youth Football Club and, more recently, 16 year old motor racing driver Reza Seewooruthun.

As for this month's Women's Football Awards, SC&W will be wishing the best of luck to everyone shortlisted for the Grassroots Initiative Award and all of those who made the shortlist for the other award categories.

More importantly, we hope that those grassroots initiatives nominated for the award plays a role in inspiring girls to follow in the footsteps of England's successful Lionesses and look to emulate them in future.
