Nick Gova featured in the legal press calling for cohabitation reform

Family Partner Nick Gova has been featured in the legal press commenting on the new Labour government, including in longstanding Times columnist Edward Fennell’s Legal Diary and Today’s Family Lawyer.

Calling for the new government to commit to cohabitation reform, Nick explains that there is very little protection available to cohabitees if a relationship breaks down.

Nick says: “There are more than 3.6 million cohabiting couples in the UK and despite being the fastest growing type of family, they are ignored by the law as it stands.”

More rights for cohabitees will help victims of domestic abuse, Nick states, as abusers take advantage of the current lack of legal protection.

“Although the rights of cohabiting couples were not mentioned in Labour’s manifesto, I hope that the new government takes action in this area,” Nick adds.
