James Robertson featured in business press on PPE Medpro

Dispute Resolution Partner James Robertson is featured in Business Matters Magazine and 9AM Business, a business news site, commenting on PPR Medpro’s contract breach and subsequent liquidation.

The government faces a significant financial loss as PPE Medpro enters liquidation, leaving a £148 million debt - including a £122 million breach of contract judgment - largely unrecovered. James notes that while the government has secured a legal victory, it may ultimately prove “pyrrhic.”

James says: “Piercing the corporate veil and going after such individuals is notoriously difficult especially in circumstances where those individuals may not even have sufficient assets in this jurisdiction to pursue.”

He suggests that meaningful recovery now depends on the government’s appetite to fund a liquidator to chase these claims. Despite the owner’s previous hints at repayment discussions, their status remains unclear.

James concludes that while the ongoing NCA investigation into Mr Barrowman and Michelle Mone offers a “spectre” of accountability, the liquidation may be the only catalyst for a speedier conclusion and the potential recouping of taxpayer funds.
